Art on the Avenue in Del Ray with Pat Palermino

On the first Saturday of every October, 50,000 people stroll down Mt. Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, VA during the annual Art on the Avenue festival. This is a multi-cultural arts festival where visitors are greeted by over 300 artists (jewelers – silversmith & beaders, woodworkers, pottery makers, soap crafters, glass makers, unique painters, sculptures, fabric artists), musicians (Irish, folk, rock n’ roll, country and more), and food vendors (hot dogs, BBQ, Indian, crab cakes, chocolate bananas dipped on a stick, home made cider donuts). In addition, kids activities abound — stuff a scarecrow and paint a pumpkin to bring home with you.

We are thrilled that renowned folk artist Pat Palermino will have a booth this year for the festival. Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to meet Pat and purchase some of her prints, note cards, and other original folk art items. Pat’s art work has been showcased in numerous galleries and historic landmarks such as the White House, Winterthur Museum, and the National Archives.

Art on the Avenue is a wonderful family event and a great opportunity to meet one of America’s great folk artists. Here are just a few of Pat Palermino’s wonderfully whimsical folk art prints that you will see on October 6 in her booth at the festival:

Folk Art Ornaments – Christmas in July

Since today is the last day to celebrate “Christmas in July”, we thought it appropriate to show you one of Patricia Palermino’s delightful ornaments. What a wonderful way to remember happy days spent in Old Town, Alexandria, or to celebrate a first Christmas in a new home in our charming town. It’s an ornament that’s worthy of its own display as well as a prominent place on any decorated tree. Patricia Palermino’s contemporary folk art celebrates the wonders of Americana at its best.

There’s a quaint shop in Old Town, The Christmas Attic, which carries Patricia Palermino ornaments as well as notecards, and other memorable keepsakes. Please pop in for a visit the next time you are strolling around, and mention that Pat sent you!

Merry Christmas in July, Everyone!
